Advanced Driver Training Dorset

The principle objectives of the Car section are to provide advanced driver training to improve driving standards and encourage interest in road safety.

Advanced driving is a safe, thoughtful and methodical way of driving. You become more observant and better at anticipating changes in the surrounding conditions. Because of this you are able to plan your driving to deal with any circumstance.

Our training is conducted on a one to one basis in your own car where a qualified Tutor will give you feedback on your driving

You and your tutor will use the Roadcraft handbook as an integral part of your training. The Roadcraft “system of car control” has been used for over 75 years by police drivers – with many rewrites to keep things up to date. This system is an integral part of the Roadcraft driver handbook. You will also be expected to be familiar with the contents of the latest version of the Highway Code.

After an appropriate period you should be sufficiently prepared and confident to undertake the RoSPA Advanced Driving Test.  This is conducted by an independent ROSPA-appointed examiner.  He or she will be a current or former police advanced class one driver.  They will put you at your ease and then choose a route that will enable you to put into practice your acquired skills and knowledge.  Afterwards you will get a full debrief and you will be sent a detailed written assessment of your advanced driving.
